How to Care for Bellis Mix
To ensure your Bellis Mix thrives and produces vibrant flowers, follow these essential care tips:
- Light Requirements – Prefers full sun to partial shade. Planting in full sun will encourage more blooms, but it can tolerate a bit of shade.
- Soil Type – Well-draining soil is crucial for optimal growth. Bellis Mix prefers slightly acidic to neutral soil.
- Watering – Water regularly to keep the soil moist, but avoid waterlogging. Allow the soil to dry out slightly between waterings.
- Fertilising – Fertilise in early spring with a balanced fertiliser to encourage healthy growth and blooms throughout the growing season.
- Deadheading – Remove spent flowers regularly to encourage continuous blooming and keep the plant looking tidy.
- Mulching – Apply a thin layer of mulch in late autumn to protect the roots during winter and help retain moisture in the soil.
Height and Spread of Bellis Mix
- Height: Typically grows to around 15–25cm (6–10 inches) in height.
- Spread: Spreads to about 25–30cm (10–12 inches) wide, making it ideal for small spaces or as ground cover.
Maintenance Tips for Bellis Mix
To keep your Bellis Mix healthy and looking its best, follow these easy maintenance tips:
- Regular Watering – While Bellis Mix is fairly drought-tolerant, regular watering during dry spells helps promote consistent blooms.
- Deadheading – Regularly remove dead or faded flowers to encourage more blooms and maintain a neat appearance.
- Feeding – Fertilise with a slow-release granular fertiliser in spring to provide essential nutrients for growth. You can also use a liquid feed every 2-3 weeks during the growing season.
- Pruning – After the blooming season ends, trim back the plant to encourage new growth and to keep it tidy for the following year.
- Winter Care – Bellis Mix is hardy, but during harsh winters, cover the plants with a light mulch to protect the roots from frost.
