Regular maintenance will ensure your Rosa 'Duftfestival' remains healthy and produces an abundance of stunning blooms.
-
Watering:
- Water deeply once or twice a week, depending on the weather.
- Focus watering at the base of the plant to prevent wetting the foliage and reducing the risk of disease.
-
Feeding:
- Begin feeding in early spring as new growth appears.
- Use a balanced rose fertilizer every 6–8 weeks during the growing season to promote continuous flowering.
-
Pruning:
- Prune in late winter or early spring before new growth begins.
- Remove dead, damaged, or crossing stems and cut back healthy canes by one-third to encourage strong growth.
- Deadhead spent blooms regularly to stimulate repeat flowering and maintain a tidy appearance.
-
Mulching:
- Apply a 5–8 cm (2–3 inch) layer of organic mulch around the base in spring.
- Mulch retains soil moisture, regulates temperature, and suppresses weeds. Keep mulch a few inches away from the stems to prevent rot.
-
Pest and Disease Management:
- Inspect regularly for pests such as aphids, spider mites, and thrips. Treat infestations with neem oil or insecticidal soap.
- Prevent fungal diseases like black spot and powdery mildew by ensuring good air circulation and avoiding overhead watering.
