Planting and Maintenance

How to Plant Sorbus aria 'Lutescens'

  • Planting Time: Best planted in autumn or early spring when the soil is moist.
  • Spacing: Allow at least 5-8m between trees for proper growth.

  • Mulching: Apply organic mulch around the base to retain moisture and suppress weeds.

Pruning and Shaping

  • Minimal Pruning Required: Naturally forms an even, rounded canopy.
  • Best Time to Prune: Late winter to early spring when the tree is dormant.
  • What to Remove: Cut back dead, diseased, or overcrowded branches to maintain shape and air circulation.
  • Training: Can be pruned to maintain a uniform shape or fit specific garden spaces.

Feeding and Fertilization

  • Spring Feeding: Apply a general-purpose tree fertilizer in early spring to encourage healthy growth.
  • Organic Mulch: Adding compost or well-rotted manure around the base improves soil health.
  • Avoid Overfeeding: Excessive nitrogen can lead to weaker growth and fewer berries.
